First off, hats off to all the captains for helping us organize the regular season.  Though it was a little more work coordinating with each team, in the end having the regular season and changing the playoffs to a single elimination tourney was the best decision. 

Just a few notes:

• Kudos to the Open champions-New Life and Co-ed champions-Church of Christ for winning their respective divisions.  Each team displayed great softball skill and Christ-like character in their quest to the top.
• Look for a survey in the next couple of days.  Your input will be very helpful in shaping the future of this league.
• We are looking for more help.  Please email me if you’re interested in planning and promoting the league.
• If people have STRONG RELATIONSHIPS with park districts, we can use your help to securing fields for next year.
• If each team can forward me pictures of your team, I will post it on our website.
• Check out www.IISL.org for Softball pictures and other information.

Special thanks to the council members, Sam, John, Joe, Andrew, and Jung for all of the behind the scenes work.  If it wasn’t for their help, IISL would stop to exist. 

Finally, thanks to Jesus for the opportunity to serve in this capacity (as league admins) and for the opportunity for Churches to play softball with each other.  Please keep our Evergreen family in your prayers.

Date: Saturday, August 6 (Both co-ed and open leagues)

Location: Olympic Park in Schaumburg, 1675 Old Schaumburg Rd, Schaumburg, Illinois 60173

Time: First games start at 10 am sharp. There will be fields available for teams to warm up. Since there will be more teams than fields, please work with the other captains to share the field or split time on the field. This may be a good opportunity to fellowship with other churches. The final games will be completed by 4pm.

Brackets: the final brackets will be published after all regular season games are completed. We will send an update so you know exactly when and which field you will be playing on.

Umpires: All tournament games will have umpires. Their calls are final. Please do not argue calls with the umps.

Captain’s meeting: We would like all team captains to meet at 9:30am at the field to check in and go over tournament rules. Please do not miss this meeting.

Fans: please bring family and friends to fellowship with other churches and strengthen our community. We are hoping for nice weather so we can all enjoy the day together.

I hope you’ve all had a chance to play your first games by now. Remember to enter your scores into the spreadsheet after the games are completed. Also, we’ve made an update to the forfeit rule to give teams more time to notify their teams in case of a rescheduled game. The new rule: If a team needs to reschedule a previously confirmed game, the team must give a confirmed 48 hour notice to the other captain. If the team does not confirm the change with the other captain by Friday 2pm, the team will forfeit the game with the final score 28-0 (4 innings with 7 runs max) for the standings. Previously the rule was 24 hours but this does not give enough time for captains to contact their teams and change plans. If you have any questions about this revised rule, please let the council know.

We’re on the verge of another season of IISL Softball and hopefully another successful one!  I know you’re all itching to get out there and play and we’re hammering out the final details of the schedule.  The softball schedule will be posted on Google Docs tomorrow at 6:30 PM.  You’ll be able to start signing up your games for times and locations.

This spreadsheet is largely based on the spreadsheet from two years ago.  Here I’ll go through brief explanation of how to use the sheet.

This is a link to a copy of the schedule.  While it most likely won’t change, there may be changes before tomorrow.   This NOT the actual file you will use.  This schedule is NOT finalized.  You will NOT have access to edit the spreadsheet.  That will come tomorrow.  This is just to take a look at it if you’re not familiar with it.

The first page is a standings page that automatically tabulates wins and losses, win percentage, games behind, and run differential from scores posted on the individual league pages.  In the event of ties for seeding purposes it is mostly correct except for ties that need to be broken by head to head matchups.  We know of this issue and we will adjust for it when the playoffs comes around.

The second page and third page are the same, just differentiated for the two leagues.  Here, the winning team will be responsible for reporting scores.  Please be timely in posting scores.  If you need to set a make-up game, don’t enter a score for the original game and type in the game in the space at the end of the schedule specifically for make-up games.

The fourth page is the full schedule.  The main purpose of this page is to find locations and times for your games.  Sign up for games will be first come first serve.  If you change your game time or location, promptly make the add the new info along with removing the old info.

The last page is just a contact info sheet so you can quickly contact other captains.

I hope you’re doing well and well rested for this upcoming year.  We (the council) have been busy planning the 2011 season trying to secure fields for our league.  I wanted to share with you some changes we will implement this year based off the feedback we received.

Council members:  Sam Chang, Andy Kang, Leonard Kang, Joe Kim, John Park, Jung Park

1. We will reinstate the regular season which will run from Late May/June to July.  Exact dates TBD.  Time is tentative Sundays 3-6pm.

2. Playoffs will now be conducted as a 1 day single elimination tourney. Not all teams will make playoffs

3. We are eliminating the B league and having only an Open league and Co-Ed league

We realize that not everyone will be satisfied, but based off our experience with running this league, we believe this is the best direction for the league. More details will come in the next few weeks.
